Glad to see Rhizosphere staying in place, for now at least!

Really appreciate the commitment/vs consistency commentary. Needed that today. Also, right there with you on all of these mid-summer struggles and where to go with it all.

To your questions dear Janisse.

Yes, I am questioning the ways of the world, particularly in our nation now. I question why we aren’t rationing fossil fuel, why we aren’t grounding the planes—at least until solar, wind and batteries are the preferred method of powering our dwellings and vehicles, and why we aren’t willing to allow late stage capitalism to dominate discussions.

The two things I’m not questioning are 1.) my purpose (very much aligned with yours) and the deep love for and from my people. I do feel we are shouldering more responsibility with the passing of Andrea Gibson and Joanna Macy. I also don’t question the intelligence and integrity of nature’s ecosystems.

What’s keeping me on course? I’ll preface my answer because it’s so controversial and emotional right now. I dipped into AI when you wrote your piece about using it. I committed to using it for science research only. But the surprise was how helpful it became with due dates and “what’s next”. I challenged AI to tell me, given my job in life, why i should use a tool that soaks up so much water and energy. The answer was helpful. When I ask for drawings and graphics-yes, that’s a huge drain…not so with line drawings. Then it provided a comparison of AI to other things from using paper to flying in airplanes. The latter took way more energy. I felt I had enough information to rely on it for science research and was pleasantly surprised to have the neutral voice telling me to get going because my work was needed in the world.

Love you, Janisse and Little Fawn and all your people. Let’s go. 🌱🌿💚🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

I loved this post and I love that you have found hope. The photo of you and little Fawn is beautiful and hopeful for me. Missed taking the memoir class so very much. Glad to know it will be possible next summer.

This was really helpful for me, Janisse. I have plenty of commitment but not always consistency. I'm hoping to have bit more of that once my youngest child leaves for college in the fall, but I am by nature kind of "wonky," so we'll see how it goes. The sky in that picture is amazing!
