*Poetry of place, poetry of person - a poetry workshop / symposium
*The Mystery Mysterium - a whole course of it 😍 or a weekend workshop.
*How to Substack or Substack 101. This would include a backstage tour of all the funky bits in the backend of Substack, marketing ideas, best practices, and a writing session per class - starting/writing a post as well as critique of participants’ current Substacks.
*“The Choice is Yours” or How JR Went From Waiting to be Chosen to Choosing Herself, and Other Wizardries - this is cross genre and applies to so many artistic paths.
You are a darling. Courses I would like to take from China Kent: How to move people to tears with your music. How to keep smiling. How to have a good time no matter what. How to build community. How to add to the beauty of the world. How to keep going. :)
Hi Janisse, I think I properly registered to be updated on the Kickstarter. Lort! The mystery of computer buttons. And, I thought I was a paid Rhizophere subscriber, but if not, let me know and I'm happy to do that too.
Most of all, know this, the mystery, the magic, of books for me can been seen the the underlines, the notes in the margins, the dog-ears of books that hold such magic. I'd love for you to see my copy of Ecology, of Craft & Current, and most of your other books. Thank you for holding, carrying, and sharing the magic and the mystery.
I just went back and reread the Mysterium chapter in Craft and Current. A robber fly landed on the page and refused to budge while I watched for several minutes. Then, a Pileated Woodpecker began its wicking song and continued as I read. A good sign.
Just a visitor from the natural world. Later this afternoon, an 8 spotted forester moth paid me a visit, landing on my glasses and then the mandala I was working on. The recent temperature drop has woken up the natural world.
I also love your pieces. I was wondering if you read the piece in the Guardian about The Salt Path and the nature memoir? https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/aug/02/the-end-of-the-road-what-the-salt-path-scandal-means-for-the-nature-memoir. I would love to know your perspective on this piece and how nature memoir reflects our current times. I have also been reading Elissa Altman's substack about her new book, Permission, and wonder how this relates to nature memoir. In case you need an idea for another post!
If anyone is on the fence, I’ve read the book and taken the class! Both wonderful! Janisse is an amazing teacher and brings together an amazing community of kind hearted, curious souls. I was sorry to see my class end!
Your words are always pure gold! Thank you. I wonder about this: Substack vs a "traditional" blog. Is one a better venue than the other these days? And also about social media. My instinct is to avoid it, but is it something integral to a writing life? As in, perhaps weekly posts? There are so many questions! Thank you for asking❤️
Love everything you do, Janisse! Guaranteed quality. Guaranteed magic.
Still the most valuable Substack for writers.
Thank you.
Agree!

Perfect! But what's the significance of a robber fly????

How do you know their exact names? Have you studied entomology?
I took an entomology class in college, but that was about 50 years ago. It’s just a hobby now.
May the mystery enfold you, Janisse, even in the midst of everything that life's thrown at you. May the mystery be your silent, steady companion. 💜
Nice picture but...I think there's some mysterium on your nose.
LOL. In my nose too, Dawn Chorus!
I have been sensing myself more open to the mysterious lately.

Yes, I've been following The Salt Path controversy. I think I will write about it, but I need to read the book first.

I was sorry to not see you every week.
